Chris Rex

Former-CEO, Ramsay Healthcare 


 

Before his retirement, Chris Rex was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ramsay Health Care, and he assumed this role after 13 years as Chief Operating Officer of the Company.

Chris played a key role in developing the Company’s excellent record in hospital management and his ability to run hospitals efficiently and effectively is widely acknowledged. He was instrumental in setting Ramsay’s growth strategy, a strategy which has seen the Company’s revenues expand to over $8 billion and included the transformational acquisition of Affinity Healthcare in 2005 and Ramsay’s subsequent growth overseas in Europe, the UK and Asia. In addition to its market leading position in Australia, Ramsay is now the largest operator of private hospitals in France, and is ranked in the top five hospital operators in the world by revenue and market capitalisation.

Prior to joining Ramsay Health Care in 1995, Chris worked as a manager in the public health service in the United Kingdom and subsequently moved into the private sector where he worked for BUPA, the UK’s largest Health Insurer. In 1988, he moved to Australia, as General Manager of Macquarie Hospital Services.

Chris is the former President of the Australian Private Hospitals Association (APHA) the peak body representing private hospitals in Australia. He was a Board member of the Schizophrenia Research Foundation and also a Director of Football Federation Australia and Sydney FC.
